Setting up a Proxy on Windows

A proxy for Windows helps make your online experience safer. It's like a security guard standing between your computer and the internet, protecting you.

What a proxy does:
-  Hides your real address on the internet
-  Allows you to access blocked websites
-  Helps you stay anonymous online
-  Speeds up website loading
-  Protects against viruses and malware

A proxy is a special computer assistant. It connects to the internet on your behalf, making your access to the network secure and private. It is a useful tool for both regular users and businesses. There are different types of <a href="https://app.cyberyozh.com/blog/choosing-the-perfect-proxy-types-of-protocols-and-their-features" target="_blank">proxies</a>, each designed for specific tasks. These include HTTP proxies for web browsing, SOCKS proxies for various protocols, resident proxies that use the IP addresses of real devices, and mobile proxies that work through mobile operator networks. In this guide, we will explain how to set up a proxy on Windows from scratch.

## **Obtaining data for connecting to a proxy on App CyberYozh**

On the <a href="https://app.cyberyozh.com/proxy" target="_blank">website</a>, select the <a href="https://app.cyberyozh.com/blog/how-to-choose-and-buy-proxies-on-app-cyberyozh" target="_blank">proxy type</a> that suits you, taking into account the following parameters:
• Proxy type: mobile or residential
• IP type: static or dynamic
• Geolocation: select a country or region
• Provider: make sure it meets your requirements

After purchasing a proxy, you will receive the connection information:

- Host: Proxy IP address
- Port: Proxy port
- Proxy Username: Login
- Proxy Password: Password

Proxy example:

- Host: 172.98.60.180
- Port: 58763
- Login: 7XbvvWautzmOZMA
- Password: xdtAof3xB7RSmUr

Be careful when copying — errors in the characters can lead to connection failures.

## Configuring the proxy through Windows settings

Open **Start → Settings → Network & Internet → Proxy**.

In the **Manual proxy configuration** section, enable the **Use a proxy server** switch.

Enter:

- Address: the proxy IP address (without http://);
- Port: the port number.

If necessary, enable the **“Do not use a proxy server for local addresses”** option so that local devices (printers, internal sites) work without a proxy.

Click **Save**.

**Important**: Windows does not save your login and password in the settings — the browser will ask for this information when you connect for the first time.

## Additional settings via the Control Panel

If you are using an older version of Windows or prefer the classic interface:

Open **Control Panel → Network and Internet → *Internet Options*.

Go to the **Connections** tab and click **Lan settings**.

Check the **“Use a proxy server”** box.

Enter the IP address and port.

Click **Advanced** if you want to set different proxies for HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and SOCKS protocols.

Here you can also specify **exceptions** — the addresses of websites that will be opened directly, bypassing the proxy (for example, `google.com`).

## Checking the proxy

Open any browser (for example, Firefox).

When you connect for the first time, a window will appear asking for the proxy login and password.

Enter the data received in your personal account and confirm.

Check the proxy connection by going to <a href="https://browserleaks.com/ip" target="_blank">the website</a> to make sure that the IP is set correctly.
